Activities for retired people

St John’s is a family church, where both young and old are equally welcomed and valued. We look out for one another and try to provide ways for those affected by old age, ill health or infirmity to remain active members of the church.

So for instance, we make regular visits to residents in local sheltered accommodation – and help them to get to church services. Where people can’t make it to church, we celebrate Holy Communion with them at home. We visit at home and in hospital and, when necessary, we provide practical help. We organise events, activities and outings especially for retired and semi-retired people.

Wednesday at 10

Wednesday at 10 is a monthly informal coffee morning for retired or semi-retired people to meet together and encourage one another. Our programme includes talks on Christian topics or issues which particularly affect older people, as well as praise and prayer events for those who enjoy singing hymns. Together we explore the application of Bible truths to everyday life and how to continue to serve God in every stage of our lives.

Wednesday at 10 is also a well-attended social occasion, when we get together, sometimes go out and always have fun! We organise outings from time to time, as well as our popular Holiday at Home – a day-long themed event in the summer.

When: 10-11.30am on the third Wednesday of each month.

Where: The Newland Christian Centre, just across the road from the Haworth Arms pub.

Our latest programme  includes details of our regular monthly meetings and upcoming special events. Visitors are welcome to all our meetings.
