1 Kings 8 – The Crown and the King’s Feet
Heavenly Royal Protocol
If the LORD is going to live amongst us His holiness will be intense (8:1-13)
The drive up to the temple cries out holiness (v1-5)
The priests driven out of the temple cries out holiness (v10-11)
If the LORD is going to live amongst us then sacrifices must pave the way (8:1-13; 62-66)
Sacrifices on the way up and on the way in (v5, 62-63)
If the LORD is going to live amongst us then He means to rule (8:1-13)
If the LORD is going to live amongst us His word must be central (8:1-13)
If the LORD is going to live amongst us His forgiveness will be required (8:22-61)
Questions: 1a) How would you describe God’s holiness? 1b) How would you evaluate your appreciation of God’s holiness? 1c) What kind of impact should the holiness of God have on you? 2a) What part did sacrifice play in this ceremony? 2b) Why is this so necessary and essential? 2c) How does all this point to and prepare us for Jesus? 3a) As a Christian what does Jesus’ Kingship mean to you? 3b) How does Jesus’ Kingship relate to the words He spoke? 4) Praise the Lord for the forgiveness we freely receive in Jesus.
